Archive a Course

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

An ARCHIVE creates a permanent record of a course, including all content, student enrollments and user interactions, captured at the moment the ARCHIVE is created. A course ARCHIVE is packaged as a zipped file and must be downloaded to a local computer or saved to Blackboard’s CONTENT COLLECTION.

An ARCHIVE file should not be opened or altered, as this file is intended to be machine readable to facilitate transfer between IT systems. Instructors should download the GRADE CENTER separately in order to have a copy of student grades that can be opened on a local computer.

To Create an Archive:

  1. Go to the Control Panel from within your course page.
  2. Click Packages and Utilities,  then select  Export/Archive Course
  3. On the next page click the Archive button.
  4. If required, tick the Include Grade Center History checkbox to include the Grade Center history data in the archive.
  5. Next to Course Files Default Directory, verify that Copy links and Include Copies of the Files in the Course Default Directory has been selected. This will copy course links and files from the current course folder into the destination course and Content folder.
  6. Next to Files Outside of the Course Files Default Directory, verify that Copy links and Include Copies of the Files in the Course Default Directory has been selected. This will copy course links and files from the current course folder into the destination course and Content folder.
  7. Click Submit. A confirmation screen once the system has received the archive request.

Please Note:

  • When the ARCHIVE has completed you will receive an email message. This email message will note that the archive file is available for download;
