Create an Assessment from a Question Pool

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Both TESTS and SURVEYS can be created using questions from a QUESTION POOL, or from questions on existing tests and surveys. When drawing from questions in a pool or an existing assessment, instructors have access to a search tool that enables them to query using a variety of criteria such as keywords, question type, and category. Once a question has been included in a new assessment, instructors can edit the question and answer text, as well as the grading options.

  1. Navigate to the content area where you would like students to access the test.
  2. Hover your mouse over the Assessments button and select either Test or Survey.
  3. Click the Create button.
  4. This will bring you to the Test or Survey Information screen. Here, provide a name, a description and instructions on how to complete the assessment. The name you provide here will also be used as the name of the assessment’s column in Grade Center.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Hover your mouse over the Reuse Question button, then select Find Questions
    NOTE: Make sure your browser is set to allow popups.
  7. A new window will appear. You can search by:
    a. entering keywords into the search box;
    b. using Browse Criteria to sort questions by criteria.
  8. Tick the boxes next to the question(s) you would like to use.
  9. To finish, click Submit.
  10. The selected questions will now appear in your test or survey canvas.
