Submitting Assignments

The Assignment tool allows instructors to provide the details of an assignment and enables students to submit their completed assignments online, in their Portal course. Students have access to an assignment for a specific period of time determined by the instructor.

Your Instructor or Teaching Assistant will send you information on where in the Course Menu to access the link to submit your assignment.

1. Click on the title of the assignment.

Carefully read and follow specific instructions outlined by your Instructor and the due date assigned.

2. Submitting your assignment: there are 2 options for Assignment Submission.

A. Text Submission (type into a text input box)
i. Click the Write Submission button and a text input box will appear.

B. Attach Assignment Files
i. Click Browse My Computer and locate file on your personal computer
ii. Select the file and click Open. Special characters in the file name will be replaced with underscores "_".
iii. If the assignment requires that you submit multiple files, repeat the steps above for each file you want to attach for this assignment.

In order to attach files, you can also drag files from your computer into the hot spot in the Attach Files area.

Other options on this page:
Add Comments allow you to include notes about your assignment to your instructor or TA.
Cancel will ignore any additions you have made to the assignment.
Save Draft allows you to save the changes you have made to the assignment, so that you may return to it. Draft assignments will not be visible to your instructor or TA until they are submitted.

3. Verify that you are following the assignment instructions from your instructor. Click Submit to send the assignment. Once you click submit you cannot alter your submission.
Note:  A "warning" window which will pop up if you have forgotten to attach a file or enter text.

4. After you click Submit, your submitted assignment should appear on the page.

After your submission is successful, a green banner will appear at the top of the window (as shown below) that includes a "submission confirmation number.It is highly recommended take a screen capture of the submission confirmation number and retain it for your records.
